End use changes severity
A decorative item, structural component, children’s product, food-contact product and component used in transportation do not present the same exposure. Disclose known end uses and prohibited uses. Do not rely on a broad phrase such as “wood products.”
Quality control is part of underwriting
Describe incoming inspection, specifications, testing, lot or batch identification, complaint handling, corrective action, record retention and the ability to trace affected product. Contracts with suppliers and customers should be reviewed for indemnity, insurance, warranties and limitation-of-liability provisions.
Recall is a separate question
General Liability and Products Liability do not automatically pay the insured’s cost to withdraw, replace or repair its own product. Product-recall or contamination coverage may be available for eligible operations, but triggers, expenses and exclusions vary.
