Commercial coverage
Commercial Umbrella and Excess Liability.
Severe auto, product, employee or completed-work losses can exceed underlying limits.
Confirm what sits underneath
Review scheduled underlying policies, retained limits, exclusions, attachment points and whether the excess wording follows the underlying coverage. Contract requirements are only one factor when selecting limits.
Do not assume the umbrella is broader
Some forms follow underlying coverage closely; others contain additional exclusions or narrower definitions. Confirm underlying policies, limits, carrier requirements and whether auto, employer’s liability, products and other exposures are properly scheduled.
Severity drives the limit discussion
Fleet size, highway exposure, structural products, public access, employee injuries, contracts and concentration of customers can matter more than annual sales alone.
