Describe the product more precisely than its material
Underwriters need product type, dimensions, load-bearing or structural use, treatments, coatings, customers and known end uses. Components incorporated into buildings, vehicles, children’s products or regulated products can carry materially different severity.
Products and operations can cross policy lines
A defect allegation may involve bodily injury or property damage, the cost to remove and replace the insured’s product, professional design allegations, pollution, recall expense or lost profits. Those categories do not automatically fall under one policy.
Quality records become claim records
Retain specifications, supplier certificates, inspection results, batch or lot records, customer approvals, complaints and corrective actions. Traceability helps narrow a suspected problem and supports the defense of unaffected product.
